CAW Supports Children in Challenging Circumstances this Mandela Day

Cape Town, July 2025 – Cape Armature Winders (CAW) is proud to have partnered with Bear With Us, supporting the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital through a special delivery of 30 comfort bears to young patients. This collaborative effort underscores the value of practical kindness and the role of businesses in uplifting the communities they serve.

About Bear With Us

Indy van zyl

Bear With Us is a volunteer-led initiative by Indy van Zyl as part of the Cape Town Junior City Council that provides hand-delivered comfort bears to children in need. In this case, to children facing long hospital stays.

“The goal is simple but powerful,” says Indy, “to bring moments of comfort and reassurance to young patients during challenging times.”

Their growing network of bear sponsors includes individuals and companies committed to making a difference, one bear hug at a time.

The team works with charity and welfare organisations to ensure each bear is personally delivered, creating a meaningful connection for the child receiving it.

The Role of The Children’s Hospital Trust

is the official fundraising arm of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. As a non-profit organisation, it raises funds to support the hospital’s world-class treatment, research, and infrastructure.

For Mandela Day this year, the Trust invited South Africans to contribute in practical, thoughtful ways, focusing on impact, dignity, and joy for children receiving medical care.

Partnering with Bear With Us aligned with this ethos, and turned a simple act of kindness into a symbol of hope and care.

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital

One of only a handful of specialist paediatric hospitals in Africa, the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is a vital lifeline for thousands of children across the continent.

It treats critically ill and injured children, regardless of their background or ability to pay.

The hospital is also a leading teaching and research facility.

Contributions from charitable initiatives like this one help to improve the overall patient experience, offering comfort that complements clinical care.

Cape Armature Winders’ Contribution

As one of the proud sponsors of Bear With Us, Cape Armature Winders contributed directly to the donation of 30 comfort bears for this Mandela Day drive. Our support enabled the delivery of teddy bears, each gifted with the aim of providing comfort, cuddles, and emotional support to young patients.

“For us at CAW”, says Neil, “this was a practical act of community support. While we’re known for our technical expertise in electric motor repairs and industrial solutions, we believe our responsibility extends beyond engineering.”

Giving back to our community, particularly through initiatives that benefit children, is part of who we are.

We extend our thanks to Bear With Us, the Children’s Hospital Trust, and the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for the opportunity to be involved in something that truly matters.

We believe that small gestures, when delivered with purpose, can go a long way. And this is another way we are eager to serve.
